Encoding for the language file

Encoding compatibility
- ISO-8859-1 (default)
- ISO-8859-15
- Windows-1252

Warning
You should ALWAYS keep the same encoding for all your installed languages. For example, both English and French shall use the same encoding.
You MUST to use the same encoding from the language file when you import a language file for a product.

Using UTF-8
If you want to use UTF-8 (or another non-ANSI encoding), you must first open the .xml file with a powerful text editor such as TextPad and then save it using UTF-8 (or the encoding of your choice).

Installation or Update

Warning
The French language file MSU BE INSTALLED for using this language file.

1) Go into your Admin Control Panel.

2) In the "Languages & Phrases" menu, go to "Download / Upload Languages".

3) Fill the form "Import Language XML File":
- "XML file": specify here the french language file of the product.
- "Overwrite Language": select the French language file (you can't create a new language with this).
- "Title for Uploaded Language": ignore this field.
- "Ignore Language Version": No if you using vBulletin 3.8.0 Beta 2, else set this to Yes.
- Clic on "Import".

4) Finally, edit the  HTML Character Set  in the language settings, especially if you have converted the language file in UTF-8 before installation.

5) You could add images in french. You can found someones here:

6) You can define the french language as default language in the Language Manager.

7) You can translate default phrases which are commons for all languages.
(usergroups names, icons names, smilies names, reputation levels names, etc.)

Bugs, errors, suggestions

From this language file, a bug can occur.

Bug description:
- The language file won't install or update.

Bug view:
- During the importation, the following text is displayed:  MASTER LANGUAGE  or  LANGUE MATRESSE .

Bug fix:
- In your php.ini file, there is a setting named  upload_max_filesize . It default value is  2M . Increase this value and
  restart Apache. If you're using a shared host, please contact your host about this.
- If you are on a shared host, only your host can done that, tell them to do that.

You can bypass this problem by uploading the language file in your server and importing it from the Admin Control Panel.
